Every individual programme is unique and custom designed to suit your needs and goals. Our state-of-the-art brain mapping technology gives us the ability to track and monitor your progress over the course of your retreat. Brain training

Every thought you think, every emotion you feel, and every sensation you have is due to the electrical firing of neurons. The electrical impulses made by neurons working in tandem are called brainwaves – your thoughts and emotions in action.

Neurofeedback trains brainwaves much like exercises are used to strengthen and develop specific muscles. You learn to alter your brain activity the same way you learn every other skill: through feedback and practice.

The more the brain is exercised into reaching a more comfortable and efficient position, the better it gets at it. Through this simple method of ‘neuro-feedback’, you learn how to quiet brainwaves associated with low performance and increase brainwaves associated with optimal function. This exercising the brain to gain new skills and alter its own function is what makes neurofeedback such a powerful technique.

All the neurotherapists on our retreats are part of the world renowned Brainworks neurofeedback practice, and are amongst the UK’s most highly trained and experienced practitioners. They use some of the most advanced systems in the world: QEEG guided deep brain neurofeedback and the Neurofield brainwave response system.

Mindfulness Meditation

One of the best things you can do to support your peace of mind, effectiveness and wellbeing is to meditate. Western science has now confirmed what Eastern traditions have known for millennia: that mindfulness decreases anxiety levels, improves sleep, and reduces negative feelings.

On Brainworks Transformational Retreats we use simple mindfulness meditation practices that are suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners. Focusing simply on what is present in the moment - whether that is the breath, sensations in the body or whatever else arises - is a simple and yet effective key to move towards better balance.

Mindfulness meditation provides a quiet space for the mind to process what it is learning from neurofeedback and neurofield sessions, cultivate a deeper sensitivity to the physical and emotional states we reach in our daily life, and helping see the tension and holding that needs to be released in the body. Each day, we guide you through a short mindfulness session - incorporating formal and informal practices that you learn on retreat and can take back home with you.

With the help of our brain mapping technology, we can also identify an appropriate meditation for your specific brain position. Guided meditations are also integrated into your neurofield sessions where appropriate.

We see mindfulness as a process rather than a state of mind - something you can do anytime, anywhere, to help you function better and grow as a unique individual. All our mindfulness practice leaders have many years of meditation practice behind them.

Breathwork

No self-balancing programme would be complete without a focus on breath.

For millennia, breathing exercises have been used as a tool to balance the mind. Simple breathing practices help tune the nervous system, calm the limbic system and stimulate the higher executive functions of the brain. 

On our retreats we work with the breath as a way to give clients tools to shift their mental and emotional states and as a key way in to meditation. What each client needs will depend on their brain position and how they breathe, so tailored advice is available as well as group guided sessions that introduce and give you the time to practice key techniques.

Breathing practices are often part of our mindfulness sessions, and sometimes also included in our bodywork, coaching, and in 1-to-1 yoga sessions. Breathing well is a take-home skill that will improve your focus, vitality and balance. All our breathwork guides have a deep understanding of the body-mind connection and share practices they know to be both safe and effective.

Coaching

All the modalities we offer on our Brainworks Transformational Retreats will help you change - and sometimes this can bring up challenging feelings, questions or insights into recurrent behaviour patterns. A coaching session invites these into the conscious space of the mind to help you gain clarity on changes taking place in the present moment and prepare to meet the challenges that life will present when you return home.

Coaching sessions offer you a warm and compassionately-held space to think, feel, and be heard, be asked thought-provoking questions and, where appropriate, draw on a wide range of tools and techniques to bring a new perspective to where you are. Your coach will enable you to help clarify and take steps forward with the issues, questions, insights and challenges that you are facing and come up with your own ways to find greater balance and integration in your life.

All our clients are also offered an optional hour's coaching within three months of their retreat as part of our commitment to help you integrate the changes you wish to make fully once they return home. Our coaches all hold a recognised professional training qualification and have years of experience working with professionals in periods of transition and personal change.
